Black's Art Challenge III

It has been a while since the last art challenge. Today, we are doing something along the lines of abstract art.

A Lil Bit Abstract

This is an attempt of understanding what exists in the innerverse of an artist, an attempt in portraying something we tend to overlook.  I hope to explain the drawing right in front of you.

Culture
Vile, despicable, maybe it needs a pop of colour was the first thing that came up in my mind. The first two words are mostly in line with what I presume the drawing represents and maybe there is something about the distorted proportion the drawing has or the grotesque feel it leaves that I find rather unsettling.

The next thing that came to mind was a question. Why is there something a bit twisted in his mind? The most prominent element of the drawing is a half-naked woman with what appears to be a ram to her left and faces separated by a talking drum on her right. Now that we know what is in the drawing, it is easier to understand the main theme captured in the drawing.

The scene that unfolds appears to be a procession. The woman is the star of this procession as she draws and holds everyone attention by becoming the object of their desire and enticing the onlookers into her ways. Her neck adorned with pieces of jewellery holds no significance to her because she requires more from them, to be adored and feared and to be worshipped. She is closely followed by men singing her praise, the talking drum melody seemed to mention what they see her as and the chants of her splendour allows us to know that she is not a lamb being led to the slaughter but she is the goddess of this procession.

A ram is brought to offer as a sacrifice to this goddess, symbolizing what her followers had sacrificed to please her. They have given her their money, their time and even their existence because what won’t humans give to get everything they ever wanted. They continue to sing her praise and bring the attention of anyone not yet vested in her to join them. One thing is sure, there would always be someone in a parade to this woman.

So how similar is this scene to culture?
Culture as we know it is ever-growing. It has evolved over time to make demands on humans and create a world with the intent of satisfying itself. It is also common to see people sacrifice all they have in the pursuit of what is accepted by a culture and the lengths they would go to sing the praise of their culture regardless of the extremes found in it.

I understand this seems like an extreme position to take in regards to culture but then again my initial thought might also be wrong.
