Guess I am 22

Image
After writing a cute message to myself last year on my 21st birthday, I subconsciously told myself it is going to become a tradition of mine to write to myself every birthday.  If there is one thing we learn, it is that life has more in store for us than we can ever see coming and by the time my 22nd birthday was approaching, I was out of positive things to write. I read a post at the beginning of July, and it led me through the paths of introspection which birthed this piece. Here is the prompt; What is *insert subject of study*?  Photo Credit: Pixabay Source: pexels.com 21 is a dream. A dream is often always comforting, starting softly, allowing your mind to tease you of all the things you believe it can accomplish and without warning, everything changes, and you find yourself struggling for breath, trying to find a way to wake up so that you can find respite because what you thought was a dream is a nightmare in disguise. It started like such a dream, a surprise birthday pa...

So What's Next?

Image
Dear reader, Happy new month. It is kind of silly that I am saying that considering almost a week has passed since the beginning of the month. But this is the first post for the month, and it is alright to wish you that. How have you been? How is 2022 going?  Personally, this year has been so long and sad for me. Yes, I know, this is just the third month, but for a lot of reasons, it has felt longer and more overwhelming. I have been broken more than I can imagine and also, I have found help along the way. The fact that I am here right now is a testament to the strength the Lord has given me, the strength that I didn’t know I needed until I felt so weak and low when I had to struggle every day to show up at the places I needed to show up. There is an update on the lesson of always showing up; for the days you can’t show up at all, give yourself grace for it. So that is what I am doing and what I have done. I am understanding that it is going to be a lot more difficult for me to sho...

The Tragedy Of The Nigerian Story

Image
I remember during my secondary school days, there was a drama competition at the National theatre in 2014 to celebrate Nigeria at 100. The theme was, “A hundred years of existence: the story so far”. In that production, there was a revealing of the problems that plagued the Nigerian society ranging from electricity to security to government embezzling all the funds, somehow it has only gotten worse. Looking back at that story and being aware of where we are now, I have decided to do a piece to discuss the situation of things right now. Source: Twitter Taking a step back, let me introduce Nigeria.  In 1914, under the authority of  Lord Frederick Lugard, the Southern Nigeria Protectorate and the Northern Nigeria Protectorate was amalgamated to form the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria. By the late 1950s, there was a call for Independence which was granted on the First of October 1960 to form the Federation of Nigeria under the rule of Queen Elizabeth II with Nnamdi Azikiwe ...

An Open Letter to the Human Race

Image
Source: Pinterest Dear human,     I saw a video recently, of a young man suicide note, and it became a sort of turning point for me because it made me question my silence. I believed for quite a while that I was not permitted to speak or more like I was scared of speaking up because there is so much I didn't know and I didn't want to make a mistake. I was trying to play it safe, in order not to bring attention to myself. I know now that is an invalid excuse. I can't keep silent any longer, I need to let you know that humanity is lost. Humans you see are products of choice; those we make and the aftermath of the choices others make. The thing is we have been making a whole lot of wrong choices because it has caused more harm than good to fellow humans. I have seen and learnt through history how inhumane we can be. People have such delight in oppressing and feeding off the ignorance of others, the fight for equality has become a show for superiority, less people live outs...
