A Thanksgiving Special: 2020 In Retrospect

Image
It probably sounds cliché if I say I don’t know how to start this piece considering it is the one I was waiting to write. I have this tradition of writing to the year by November and writing to the next year December. However, 2020 was very much unexpected, I couldn’t have been prepared in any way for it. But then again, none of us did. Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday in the year- too bad we don’t celebrate it in Nigeria- because of its essence. The coming together of families and friends, having an atmosphere of gratitude for how the year has gone by, talking about the things you are thankful for and finally food. I decided to combine both things in this post and share. Source: Pinterest I am going to start with what I wrote this year and titled “ Project 2020 ”. I was ready to break the mould and step out of my comfort zone. I had everything sorted out; resuming clinical class, settling into a new apartment alone which was a sure comfort from the lousy roommate situation,

Black's Art Challenge III

Image
It has been a while since the last art challenge. Today, we are doing something along the lines of abstract art. A Lil Bit Abstract      This is an attempt of understanding what exists  in the innerverse of an artist, an attempt in portraying something we tend to overlook.  I hope to explain the drawing right in front of you. Culture Vile, despicable, maybe it needs a pop of colour was the first thing that came up in my mind. The first two words are mostly in line with what I presume the drawing represents and maybe there is something about the distorted proportion the drawing has or the grotesque feel it leaves that I find rather unsettling.  The next thing that came to mind was a question. Why is there something a bit twisted in his mind? The most prominent element of the drawing is a half-naked woman with what appears to be a ram to her left and faces separated by a talking drum on her right. Now that we know what is in the drawing, it is easier to understand the main theme capture

Moving On: Learning from My Healing Journey

Image
I already mentioned what a heartbreak is and why you would need to heal from it in an earlier post  Moving on: Healing a Broken Heart . While the things I mentioned in the earlier post are mainly from books I have read and other people’s experience. At the time of that post, I was going on that journey myself, I have decided to post an update now that I have a bit more insight and understanding of moving on. Source: Pinterest So what have I learnt from my healing journey, In healing, the most important person is you. If you don’t take time to heal from whatever has hurt you, it will affect your relationship with other people. Distracting yourself from whatever happened or refusing to deal with what hurt you will cost you more in the long run. Healing starts when you hold yourself accountable for your actions and begin to forgive yourself for all the mistakes and errors you made on the way. Forgiving myself helped me let go of the offence and helped me forgive every other person th
