02: Holiday and a Wedding

Ama Nkupe, Nsukka
I know there is a running joke about there being no rest for the wicked and medical students, but as soon as the last week of lectures came around, I booked a flight back to Lagos.

I travelled home on December 23, 2022.

For the first time, my beloved Ibom Air didn't keep its schedule, and our flight was delayed for about 40 minutes. But that was just a little bump with no effect on the overall holiday.

My brothers came in the next day, and for Christmas, we had a get-together/sleepover with the extended family. I got to spend time with my cousins, and we discussed our plans for the next year, especially those of us that would be graduating this year.

For the rest of the holidays, all I did was sleep and eat. I saw Glass Onion and Wednesday again, with my younger brother. I went to the Crossover service, and it wasn't as dramatic as I expected it to be. One of my cousins on my mother’s side came to stay with us after Christmas and was still around while I left.

I returned to Enugu State on January 3, 2023.

A word of advice here: always clean up your space before you travel. I was overwhelmed with all the cleaning I had to do. I travelled with Munachi the following day for my sister's wedding, and we spent the night in her village.

The wedding was such a beautiful ceremony, and the journey was worth it. It was the first Igbo traditional wedding I attended and was a part of. And I enjoyed it so much. My outfit was top-notch, and I managed to dance.

I returned to help a friend’s sister, who stayed at my place, with moving into her apartment. It was a fun thing to do, and she appreciated my help. That in itself was the reward for the assistance rendered. I binged on Riches in the same time frame and loved it. The story was well written, and the drama was drama-ing.

The endpoint of my two-week holiday was a friend’s birthday hangout on the 8th of January.

It was a fun time just hanging out, and I had Nkwobi for the first time. To be honest, it could be better; I'm not sure they prepared it well.

There you have it, a summary of my holiday.

I tried to paint the story with broad strokes instead of going into details about everything that happened. I found out shortly after starting this that I would not be able to share the experience, but because I have committed to telling the story, it seemed unfair to myself to scrap it out completely.

Also, in line with my new year's To-do list, I uninstalled WhatsApp as I said I was going to do and it feels weird. I am so used to mindlessly scrolling and viewing people’s WhatsApp statuses when I feel bored. But I am going to keep this pending until I see the change I want.

But you can always reach me via email, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

That’s all for now.

Until next time,

The Estherian 💛💛
