TDS: Satisfying A Wanderlust

Wan·der·lust
/ˈwändərˌləst/

noun: wanderlust
A strong desire to travel.

One thing I love about my father is his love for adventures. He is always interested in going somewhere new and coming back with stories of how such a journey went. He loves travelling and somehow; I fell in love with travelling too. There is something quite fascinating about being somewhere no one knows you, somewhere you can take in the sights and get lost in it, somewhere that can captivate you and show you how diverse life is.

I am always on the lookout for something that would get me away from the life I am living. I am always waiting, maybe impatiently for something to break my routine and the mundane life that has somehow become my every day. I crave experiences that are pockets of joy, where time can stop, and I can let loose. I am always looking for an opportunity to escape home, and maybe I was born to be a nomad of sorts, going from place to place in search of somewhere new for my soul to be lost in, where I can see with the eyes of a wanderer, be in deep awe of the beauty of a place and moving away quickly before the overreaching hands of reality comes to ruin my fantasy. I want to see as much of the world as I can before I die.

I already have a head start in this, and with every trip and holiday we took as a family, I just wanted more. I remember telling someone that I am going to combine travelling with Medicine when I am done with school and maybe that is enough to keep me occupied because, between these two things, I might not have time for anything else. The first thing to travelling is the destination, and I am already compiling what I am calling “My Grand Travel Checklist”. There are a few places I have already checked off my list and there is a road trip with a few friends after we finish university in the works.

The plan is this, start small with as many states in Nigeria as possible, then expand my horizon to places outside the country like; Ferrari World In the UAE, Mashpi Lodge in Ecuador, Mauritius and Bali because why not, Switzerland, Museum of Natural History, Paris, try out whitewater rafting, or skydiving, maybe bungee jumping, take a boat ride on the Venice, see the northern lights and maybe have breakfast someday in Santorini. I want to go to Germany, get to do more than just walk through the airport in Egypt, Istanbul seems like a fantastic idea and how can I forget Japan. With every passing day, I want to visit everywhere that I find fascinating and my bucket list gets longer and the thought of staying in one place becomes so frustrating.

Before you say it, I know what you are thinking. Things like; this is a delightful idea, but it is going to be expensive. Are you going to travel alone or do you need a travel partner, will your job even permit you to do all this travelling? I don’t know, but I am going to start wherever I can and have the rest of my life figuring out how many years it will take to exhaust my bucket list and satisfy this wanderlust.

By the way, if you know any travel agency or airline that is looking for a travel ambassador and have a lot of free trips on their offer, please direct them to me. I don’t want a lot of possessions, neither am I trying to accumulate wealth, but I want to have a lot of experiences and maybe someone to share them with.
I can’t wait to start my three countries in a week post, it is going to be so amazing.

So this is the end of "The Dream Series" and it was a beautiful ride writing about the things I long for in this life and the anticipation for starting it out. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you figured out something about me because that is the point of the whole series. I am not sure if Aeon will do a bit on TDS. You should check out her first post, Newbie On The Block, it was cute. You can reach us by sending a mail to theestherian@gmail.com.

It is May and I am saying welcome.
I hope you have an amazing month.

With Love,
The Estherian.
