Black's Art Challenge

Image
Made with Logo Maker app A few weeks ago, a friend challenged me. He would come up with a drawing or painting on any topic and I would write a short story about it. Easy right? One Title: Hollow At first glance, it is easy to say that a man can be seen in the tree but with a closer look, you begin to realize things are not the way they appear. This drawing reveals something about the nature of man. You can see when you take a closer look that the leaves or rather the tree is made out of a face. The roots of this tree is what makes the man himself, his struggles, challenges and the things we cannot fully see his background. The trunk of the tree is not straight, it is bent in such a way that we get a glimpse of the man. Beyond his face, we realize his journey of becoming is not easy. He came from somewhere and his experiences have shaped him into becoming who is now. Inside this portrait, we are shown a stern-looking man, viewing us with the same intensity we use to look at him. His lip...

It's a culture thing

Image
Source: Pinterest I got into a discussion last Monday with a friend and the discussion was based on something she had seen online and her reaction to it. She was defensive when the discussion started and we had to go over and over until I was able to at least make her go back and question what has made her come to such an awful generalization. I was not satisfied with the outcome of the discussion because we had the same material but we were reaching a conflicting outcome. So I decided to put myself in her shoes and try to take a step back with what I know and see how she got to her standpoint. In doing that, I had this thought, maybe it is because of the culture because if we flip things or try to compare it with other similar situations, the issues are going to be reversed and the conflict might not exist. I decided to test my theory and sent a message to someone I hold in high esteem. I asked the exact question that led to my prior discussion but I added the phrase, it's a cultu...

Options I didn't know I had

Image
source: Pinterest Starting this particular post was quite stressful for me, considering my mind is all over the place and I am not able to bring my thoughts in check. It is safe to say that maybe we all have a few things we want to do and cannot because of the time and all the restrictions. I want to have a cup of Coldstone ice cream and with probably a delicious slice of chocolate fruit cake but well I don't have it so I am going to rant about that. Permit me. Let me tell you about last week, it was not pretty, I was feeling unwell and I was too tired to do stuff I normally do like reading about something interesting, catching up on my studies,  getting ready to put up a blog post, I was just tired, extremely tired. Then there was this disinterest for practically almost everything, I don't think I had the time to enjoy a good conversation with anyone, then there was a family squabble that has been resolved. In all last week was just one of those days that you want to pass by a...

An adventure called Friendship: What I have learnt

Image
The Passion Translation Growing up, I was always indoors and it kinda made me a bit reserved and shy. It didn't help the fact that I am introverted and could not make friends quite easily. A  friend means different thing to different people, so I want to break down all the people I refer to as my friends into categories, permit me, I always fall into the trap of placing people into boxes. The people that I meet and relate to on a surface level due to a common ground or interest. The people I have around or those that see me around and all we share is one or two nice words and we have no common interest or nothing whatsoever. The people who know me and we talk to each other a lot, we share similar interest, ideals and just about anything. The people that know almost everything about me, likes and dislikes, almost the same set of beliefs and we do things together. They are my go-to people for advice and we face life together. They are my real gees. Finally, there are those that we us...

JULY

Image
Source: Pinterest Setting the Mood with Jason Mraz - Hearing Double     Do you know the feeling that comes before running out into the sea, the excitement for an extra cone of ice cream, the longing for a break and the anticipation for a holiday? Yup, that is July. All through my younger years, July was the prelude to better days like the end of school and the long summer holidays with my grandparents. I am so much in love with the feelings attached to this month, making July my favourite month in the year.  Now I am getting older, I have learnt to keep the same energy around the month. So I am dedicating this beautiful month to friends and family and all the special people that are in my life and I am celebrating every one of them. Thank you for following my blog so far, and I hope you check in this beautiful month also.  With overflowing love, The Estherian

Be Intentional

Image
source: Pinterest                     Wednesday would mark the beginning of the last half of the year 2020, and one of my reoccurring thoughts is the need to be me. I often find myself in situations and instances where I ask myself how I got there or what was my purpose in the situation. One of the things I would be working on is being intentional about me.  So as we are trying to make the most of a somewhat annoying year, this is a reminder and an encouragement to be intentionally you. Being intentional means doing things on purpose, deliberately or voluntarily and asking to be intentional about you is to be deliberate about yourself, to stop going with the flow, to break out from the need to conform and to see beyond how things appear to be. Now I am not trying to preach but instead, I am talking to myself foremost. Be intentional about Life         What are the reasons for you living your life? ...

A Quarantined Collection

Image
Playful Panda presents, A Quarantined Collection           The quarantined collection comprises of 10 outfits; four floor-length evening/ asoebi gowns, two knee-length gown, one kimono robe, one kimono-inspired jacket, one short gown and one jumpsuit. Inspiration          The collection is basically a put together of outfits I would love to make and wear out for events but since I am in self-isolating, it helps to put down all the ideas on paper so as not to forget to try them out once I return to my everyday activity. Outfit 1 Off-shoulder fishtail gown with side peplum Outfit 2 Ankara evening gown over a cord lace underskirt with butterfly sleeves and plunging neckline Creative process          The main beauty of this collection is the ability to integrate different textures and designs into the drawings and I am most proud of the figure used in outfit 8. It is my favourite piece in the collection. Outfit ...
