The Estherian Blog 2021

Image
Welcome to my blog. I am so excited to have you on board with me as  I share my stories in hopes of connecting with someone going through something similar and need to feel seen or heard.  Writing to me is a form of compromise, a means of communicating with the outside world without straying too far from my level of comfort. It serves as a means of escape from the stress of the every day, a means of processing my emotions and encouragement anytime I become stuck or feel alone. I started blogging April 2020, amid a pandemic as a form of self-care and as a means of reaching out to others going through the times.  Join me, in 2021, as I learn more about my Christian faith, talk about the topics that interest me, explore the world one day at a time and share my journey in becoming who I am created to be.  Here is a breakdown of what I am looking forward to putting out next year. Creating Impact Through Stories CHECK-IN: WEEKLY UPDATES Check-In is every post on the blog...

On Jealousy And Its Appropriateness

Image
On Wednesday, Zita asked a question on her WhatsApp status about jealousy in a relationship and what its significance was. I sent her my thought on the subject, and she relayed what she learnt from the question she asked and also suggested that it is a good idea to put up a post about jealousy. So, Zita, this one's for you. Taking a slightly different approach, I would share a bit of what I know about jealousy, what I have learnt and how appropriate jealousy is, that is if it is appropriate at all.  Zita's Status Update Source: WhatsApp Jealousy is the state or feeling of being jealous- showing envy of someone or their achievement and advantages. But this definition seems a bit insufficient because not only does it not fully explain jealousy, it brings up a word that is often used in place of jealousy, envy. A simpler definition by Gustavo Razzetti, Creator of the Culture Design Canvas is; “Envy is a reaction to lacking something, jealousy is a reaction to the t...

A Late Year Lesson

Image
Source: Pinterest I think I was duped.  This experience doesn't change my perspective on people, but it has helped me understand that anyone that tries to steal from you would do it irrespective of your good heart or kind words, and it also helped me understand myself a bit more.  Around September, I decided to work on some projects that I have been putting away till I can afford it. One of them was making a bed because I am trying to maximize the floor space in my apartment and also remove my mattress from the floor. I asked some friends to recommend carpenters to me and I found someone willing to make the bed. I planned to get the bed done and delivered immediately I got to Enugu. November came around and I had a friend(Marcus) staying over at my place, so I decided to give my plan a go.  Before making the payment, I called some of my friends at Enugu to check up on this guy to confirm that he was legit because I was uncertain who gave me his number. The results of this...

A Thanksgiving Special: 2020 In Retrospect

Image
It probably sounds cliché if I say I don’t know how to start this piece considering it is the one I was waiting to write. I have this tradition of writing to the year by November and writing to the next year December. However, 2020 was very much unexpected, I couldn’t have been prepared in any way for it. But then again, none of us did. Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday in the year- too bad we don’t celebrate it in Nigeria- because of its essence. The coming together of families and friends, having an atmosphere of gratitude for how the year has gone by, talking about the things you are thankful for and finally food. I decided to combine both things in this post and share. Source: Pinterest I am going to start with what I wrote this year and titled “ Project 2020 ”. I was ready to break the mould and step out of my comfort zone. I had everything sorted out; resuming clinical class, settling into a new apartment alone which was a sure comfort from the lousy ...

Black's Art Challenge III

Image
It has been a while since the last art challenge. Today, we are doing something along the lines of abstract art. A Lil Bit Abstract      This is an attempt of understanding what exists  in the innerverse of an artist, an attempt in portraying something we tend to overlook.  I hope to explain the drawing right in front of you. Culture Vile, despicable, maybe it needs a pop of colour was the first thing that came up in my mind. The first two words are mostly in line with what I presume the drawing represents and maybe there is something about the distorted proportion the drawing has or the grotesque feel it leaves that I find rather unsettling.  The next thing that came to mind was a question. Why is there something a bit twisted in his mind? The most prominent element of the drawing is a half-naked woman with what appears to be a ram to her left and faces separated by a talking drum on her right. Now that we know what is in the drawing, it is easier to unde...

Moving On: Learning from My Healing Journey

Image
I already mentioned what a heartbreak is and why you would need to heal from it in an earlier post  Moving on: Healing a Broken Heart . While the things I mentioned in the earlier post are mainly from books I have read and other people’s experience. At the time of that post, I was going on that journey myself, I have decided to post an update now that I have a bit more insight and understanding of moving on. Source: Pinterest So what have I learnt from my healing journey, In healing, the most important person is you. If you don’t take time to heal from whatever has hurt you, it will affect your relationship with other people. Distracting yourself from whatever happened or refusing to deal with what hurt you will cost you more in the long run. Healing starts when you hold yourself accountable for your actions and begin to forgive yourself for all the mistakes and errors you made on the way. Forgiving myself helped me let go of the offence and helped me forgive ev...

An Illusion of freedom

Image
Source: Pinterest I am going to assume you must have heard, things are not the way they seem. This means what we accept as the truth is often an illusion and until we change our perspective we might never know the truth. One of such illusions is freedom, we believe we are free because we can do what we choose to and we are not under any clear oppression and until we look closer, we likely get away with believing it. I read a quote somewhere and it goes like this,  What is worse than a bird in a cage? A bird in a bigger cage because it believes it is free.  Freedom is the state of being free; not being imprisoned or enslaved and assured liberty. It is the power or right to act, speak or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint and the absence of a despotic government. Our fundamental human right embodies freedom and it is an integral part of who we are even if such freedom is often within limits and is supposed to be protected by the laws and government of a reg...
